Homeschool Advice and Encouragement

Already homeschooling?

If you're wondering which history curriculum would be best for your kids or if you're trying to figure out how to grade your high school student's writing assignments or if you're feeling really discouraged about homeschooling and need some encouragement just to keep going, feel free to give our team member Donna Ellenburg a call. You can reach her directly at 931-952-6566 from 8:30 - 5:00 Central time Monday-Friday.

Having taught her four children K-12th grades, Donna has vast experience in homeschooling. She told her husband Phil (then a pastor), "I feel as God-called to homeschool our children as you do to preach!" Donna enjoyed her role as homeschool mom immensely. Today she loves to share her experience and insights to encourage other homeschool moms. She truly understands the joys and burdens of this important role.

Thinking about homeschooling?

Wonderful! We would love to encourage you and connect you with resources to help you get started. We have a separate website called Be Happy Homeschooling with videos, articles, and more.

Be Happy Homeschooling

This is a big decision for your family. Believe that you can succeed. You are a capable person, you love your children more than anyone else, and you can find the support you need. As with so many areas of life, attitude is very important!

Here are a few things to consider:

  • Homeschooling is regulated on a state-by-state basis. Each state sets its own rules and requirements. Veteran homeschoolers have organized support groups to give new homeschoolers the guidance you are looking for. Here's a list and map to help you find one.

  • Talk to a few homeschoolers who live near you. You will likely hear several different perspectives and philosophies, but you will get some practical advice about how to do it where you live, the opportunities around you for field trips and group activities, and ways you can teach your children beyond what you might even have thought of so far.

  • As you are choosing resources, we encourage you to go slow, set realistic goals, and not buy too much. You don't have to cover everything in the first year. We can help you think through your priorities and decide on some easy beginning steps.
